ABOUT

John holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (QUT) and Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning. John completed his articles with Grant & Simpson and was admitted as a Lawyer in February 1993. He became a Partner of the firm on the 1st January 1997. John undertakes continuing legal education and professional development.

John has wide ranging legal experience including:-


  • Acting for clients in a variety of business sales and purchases, franchising and commercial property deals (including transactions worth up to $20million and involving small business, listed companies and overseas entities);
  • Negotiation and preparation of complicated contracts and lease documents for commercial clients and government clients including for hotels, motels, logistics businesses, airports, mining industry companies and rural enterprises;
  • Representing clients in a variety of business and commercial disputes;
  • Preparing “off the plan” contracts for the sale of multi-million dollar residential land and commercial property developments;
  • Negotiating easements with landholders, service providers (e.g. pipe lines) and government authorities;
  • Negotiating royalty rights, terms and conditions on behalf of landholders
  • Acting in large rural property transactions including the negotiation and preparation of contracts and liaising with government departments;
  • Acting in a range of litigation matters, for example the successful representation of a Central Queensland sporting club which was sued for personal injuries (winning both the trial and the appeal on behalf of the sporting club);
  • Representing parties involved in disputed deceased estates ranging in value from $300,000.00 to $10,000,000.00 (including court proceedings);
  • Successfully helping clients with their estate planning (including their wills, powers of attorney, advising on family trusts and self-managed superannuation funds).

John is a past president, secretary and treasurer of the Central Queensland Law Association. He has served on various community organisations. John avidly follows cricket and enjoys playing touch football, running and spending time with his family.
